My Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 cup butter (cold and diced
- 7 gala apples (peeled and chopped thin)
- 3/4 cups sugar
- cardamom to taste
- cinnamon to taste
- cloves to taste
- nutmeg to taste
- ginger to taste
Directions
- Preaheat oven to 175C
- Combine flour and salt. Add butter to flour mixture and break apart each cube with your fingers. Add ice water and knead until a shaggy, flaky dough is formed.
Wrap the dough in foil and let chill for 2+ hours
- Combine the apples, sugar, and spices in a bowl and mix until eavh slice is coated. Let sit while preparing the crust
- On a floured work surface roll out each ball of dough until they reach a diameter of about 12 inches. Layer the first crust on the bottom of a pie dish.
- Add in the apples and press down. The apples should be packed tightly together with a denser middle. This will create the pie shape.
- Place the top crust over the apples and press the edges together. Use a fork to press the bottom and top crusts together along the edge of the pie pan.
In the center of the top crust create a slit to allow ventilation while baking.
- Bake in the oven for 1 1/2 hours or until the sugar is bubbling and the crust is slightly golden.
- Allow to cool for 2+ hours.
